The band’s leader, Steve Eads came to Australia from the U.S. in 1974 to take up a position as a professional music teacher with the South Australian Education Dept, Music Branch. He formed EDGAR BECK in 1977 as a rehearsal band for members of Banksia Park Concert Bands Inc. which has honoured Steve with Life Membership.

Steve’s interest in big band music stems from his involvement in dance bands throughout his schooling, culminating in a music degree from Central Washington State University where he studied with renowned West Coast jazz educator John Moawad.

Who is Edgar Beck? It was one of the fads of the 30’s and 40’s music era to have fictitious names for the bands of the time and in keeping with this Steve Eads invented the name Edgar Beck.

EDGAR BECK BIG BAND is made up of a group of people with diverse and interesting backgrounds; professional, semi-professional and amateur musicians all of whom have one thing in common – they love to play music.

The band, which has the ability to form into sub groups during a performance such as the Little Edgar Dixieland Group, can provide live music for your special function from promotions, cabarets and dances to concert programmes.
